New ticketing flexibility

In 2020 we permanently eliminated change fees for most Economy and premium cabin tickets for flights within the U.S., between the U.S. and Mexico or the Caribbean, and for international travel originating in the U.S.

Effective immediately, we are offering new flexibility for travel agency-issued tickets allowing for the return of value to customers who want to book a new itinerary with a lower fare or cancel their trip, all while minimizing administrative burden for agencies and corporations.

Tickets that meet the following criteria can now be refunded less a cancel fee to the original form-of-payment:

  • 016 wholly unused, unexpired, and open coupon status
  • Any point-of-sale
  • U.S. point-of-origin (50 U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands)
  • Premium cabin or standard United Economy published fares, excluding Basic Economy
  • Travel on or after March 3, 2020

We updated the ATPCO Emergency Rule CAT16 for past and current fares to reflect this new policy, including the applicable fee and the waiver code.
For examples, applicable exclusions and how to process, please visit United Jetstream.

International change fee waiver extended
As border restrictions continue to impact travel, we’ll continue waiving change fees for international point of origin itineraries purchased through May 31, 2021 (April 30, 2021 for Basic Economy). For full waiver details, please visit United Jetstream.
